Need a Spot
I'm looking to purchase an '84 flatbed 2wd yota and would eventually like to swap out the tranny with one out of an '84 4runner. Is it as simple as removing the transfer case and bolting on the back end cover of the 2wd tranny? I'm familiar with the 4x4 G-52s, but not the 2wd trannys. Are the '84 2wd trannys even called G-52s?

Body Damage is Cool
i don't think there was a G52 2wd tranny. if it's a 5 speed it is probably a W55. it'd be easier to just find a good 4wd tranny and bolt it to the engine.

you'll also have to get a different crossmember(have to take the sawzall to the 2wd one, it's welded on).

Mudrunner
Not likely to work period if one tranny is a W series and one tranny is a G series. If they are both the same series you have to remove and switch the 4wd transfer adapter for the 2wd extension housing. As well the gear ratios are usually differnt between the 2wd and 4wd transmissions.

G52 First Gear: 3.930:1
W55 First Gear: 3.566:1
