Hello all
I am going to change my ball joint on my 98 tj, upper and lower I am getting an audable clank and i cant figure out where is comming from ,I have changed the front u joints, trac bar looks ok (I can't get it to wiggle), I am down to control arms and ball joints, I have never done them before, (casue my pop's was always saying you need press to get them out) I think a pickle fork will work, what do you all think, will a pickle fork and bfh work, or should I listen to my Dad and pay the bucks
cheers
ML

You will not need the fork... The parts house will LOAN you a portable press that works fine for most ball joints.
Sort of a screw vice. You get it real tight and if needed give it a little help with a BFH..

Body Damage is Cool
BJ is right a pickle fork wont even work at all. and spray the heck out of the ball joints with pb blaster let it set then repeat every couple hours or so before the attempt to remove them.they can be a pita sometimes heat is needed but i wouldnt advise it.

Good for you Cuervo... However I know some dads that were simply sperm doners and nothing else.

you'll want the balljoint press. a pickel fork might be handy to drop the drag link on the passenger side for easier access to hub nuts. my yj loves the new balljoints. so tight and straight now. throw the new balljoints in the freezer before install. they'll push right in.

yea, you'll have to pull the axles. there won't be room to get the puller in otherwise. no biggie, castle nut and the 3 13mm 12 points are all that lie between you and pulled axles. you'll want to pull the top one, then the bottom one, then put in the bottom one first. the press threads will go through the upper balljoint hole when doing the bottom one. have fun...it's really not bad <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />
