Yeah, I found out almost the hard way about my roomie's Corolla--while I was winterizing it, I had the battery out; went to put it back in and about went deaf because of the alarm... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/zombie.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/zombie.gif" alt="" /> Good thing I had it inside, as it was -20F out. Danged thing wouldn't start, etc, and I didn't have the stupid fob.

What a way to get stranded, eh? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/barf.gif" alt="" />

On the tow rating, I was referring to the bar itself; didn't look too closely there. I figured I could find the engine's guts rating later. Ah yes, to be able to tow a boat again...... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Hope the seller doesn't ruin my fantasies!! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

If the hitch is a 2", then it would most likely have a 500 pound tongue rating and a 5K trailer rating.

If it is a 1 1/4" then it would most likely have a 200-300 pound tongue rating and a 2K-3.5K trailer rating.

Good luck with your fantasies... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

As far as I know, all 3rd generation 4Runners come with the factory 2 inch hitch. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Too close for missiles, I'm switching to guns...

'97 4Runner...SR5, 4cyl (3RZ), 5spd, 4wd, no rust, excellent shape.

No, hitches were not standard on 3rd gen 4Runners. There are tons of them out there without hitches. And tons more with aftermarket hitches. If they came standard with a 2" hitch, then why would ALL of the aftermarket hitch companies make hitches for the them??

LOL
I stand corrected! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
Good point though. I've never seen a 4Runner without the hitch, but I believe you.
So, of the 4Runners WITH the hitches, are they all a factory 2 inch?

For the ones with the factory hitch, I *think* they were all 2". Aftermarket hitches are fairly easy to spot because of the brand stickers (Reese, HiddenHitch, U-Haul, etc.) on them.

The tow bar on this thing has a Toyota stamp and factory wiring. The bar is set up with the ol' 2" square receptacle to receive your choice of hitch.

Kewlynx, just bought the 98 2.7 4runner that I was looking at. Big improvement in power over the 22re in my 85. Better gas mileage too. The new one is stock, the old one has a ported head, mild cam and a header. Looked at one that I didn't buy.(Too expensive plus seller had a bad rep) That one had the "sport package" Fender flares and posi-trac rear is all I noticed. Anyhow, anyone know where to get that stuff after market?

85 4Runner 22re, mostly stock. Over 340K miles(SOLD for $4000 7/06)

98 2.7 4cyl 4Runner Bone Stock perfect 200,000 miles (alright, it has a HG and clutch in it's past)

One of the first things I'll get after setting up the dog's ride are THESE The roomie's Corolla's light have been saved many times over; the replacement light assembly is $250!!

I see they have quite a few little goodies for our Runner; free shipping (for you Lower 48 folks anyway).
