today i dug out my old 22R carb that had been rebuilt for my initial engine build about a year and a half ago, and started stripping it down for no particular reason. i'm trying to see how much stuff i can remove from this thing and still have it be functional.

everything looks straightforward for the most part(i've even found that weber main jets fit the primary main jet on this thing!), except for one thing -- the secondary main jet and metering rod assembly.

on this particular carb, the secondary barrel has a choke flap, which has a cam on the end that raises the metering rod up as it goes vertical, thus allowing more fuel through. thing is, i can't seem to figure out what makes the flap move! it's spring loaded, but has no other linkage besides a cam that doesn't allow it to open if the choke is on(which will be irrelevant, the choke is getting the ax).

my question is, is there a way to make the metering rod setup work without the flap, or can i ditch the whole thing and install a fixed jet of some sort in there.
