Getting the Wheeling Fever
hello all, I was looking at my dashpot today and noticed that there is some sort of filter attached to the vacuum line that comes off the bottom of the dashpot. Is this filter supposed to be attached to anything? the filter has an air intake at the bottom but nothing else. Is this supposed to be connected to some other part of the vacuum system?

It is a filter, keeps crap from getting sucked into the dashpot when it opens and closes, and it also has a sort of check valve that slows the air escaping when the throttle closes:
