Just seems like it wouldn't be possible to get 1.53 quarts in there that way, actually. I think I read somewhere about someone filling it through the top once...?

...just a bit of a gut check, I guess.

yeah, side is definitely easier than through the bottom.

The folks filling it through the top don't have the auto

when looking for a container to hold drained brake fluid, find a container that is different from the beverage you are currently consuming.

did you try the pump? or my favorite is the hose that screws onto the end of the bottle, but for the t-case, the pump is prolly easier....

left myself wide open for the crude jokes....

I just woke up - had a dream about cooking the transfer case because it overheated. One thing that we noticed about the old tcase vs. the new tcase is that the "new" one with the TeraLows is a lot harder to turn. I'm hoping that this is a) the fact that I haven't filled it with 5w30 Mobil1 yet, and b) that there's a little bit of break-in involved here... Either way, I could see kabooming the case on a drive to Moab in the shape it's in right now, being as tight as it is.

I haven't filled mine up yet either Does it have to be 5w30 or can it be 10?I've always used 10w30 on all my vehicles , and you don't see to much 5w30 in the stores.

I was just going to use a funnel to fill mine up , with a curved end on it.I wasn't sure if it would work to take off the shifter and dump it in there.A hose sounds like it would work well too.

Be careful not to overtighten the fill plug. The threads in the aluminum t-case are very easy to strip. On the other hand, if the plug isn't tight enough, it could fall out and the gears will sieze after the oil blows out the fill hole.

With a simple oil pump (cheap and available) changing the t-case oil is fairly quick and easy.

I do remember somebody filling the tcase from the top through the shifter hole if I remember right.

I would not worry about overheating the beast. I have been running my dual case set up for a year now with out killing the t case. I have a temp gauge hooked up to the front tcase, which has the front output chopped off and holds a lot less oil now. I also made it so that the oil baths for the tcase and tranny are shared in the manual and first t case. The temps get as high as 230 degrees, but I hooked up an oil cooler and pump for the long trips. The rear tcase is from an auto and has tera gears in it. No problems with that one either.

I decided to try the garden sprayer trick...bought a 1-gallon at Home Depot, took the spray nozzle off the wand, and put a couple quarts of Mobil One in there, pump it up...then all you have to do is hold the wand in the fill hole until it starts overflowing. Have a rag handy...
