Getting the Wheeling Fever
I recently purchased a 2000 4 Runner with ~ 120k miles. The previous owner had the service work done at various Toyota dealerships but unfortunately all of the paperwork was lost (at the used car dealer).

I have no doubt the truck was well maintained but the previous owner is not the mechanic type so all she remembers is about how much she spent and when. If I can not prove things were done like changing the timing belt and water pump I will have to assume they were not done - possibly spending a far amount on parts to swap items which are still in good shape.

I've talked with the local Toyota service department which claims they can not pull a service history across the various dealerships. I have to believe this is possible in that the work they do is warranted across the US - so they need to have some way to know you are not hopping dealership to dealership having them warranty a motor every month.

Does anyone know if it is possible to obtain a comprehensive service history for a vehicle like this?

Mark

Mark,

If you talk to a service advisor at the dealership where some of the work was performed, they will tell you and maybe print out the major service performed. Print outs would be nice, expect that they will just tell you the info.

There aren't that many dealerships in a given area. See if you can pinpoint the areas from the PO.

With the VIN, the dealer should be able to pull that information. HOWEVER, that info doesn't cross from one REGION to the next.

I've also tossed a small fee at the state DMV to get the vehicle's registration/title history and have been able to track down certain information as well.
