IÆm replacing the upper ball joint on my Trooper.

I found these two ball joints and need help deciding which to buy.

The first is a direct replacement:

The second uses the original base and just replaces the ball joint:

(I now you need special tools to replace these, you can barrow them from Autozone. But how hard are they to replace?)

Your help is much appreciated.

What's the price difference? I'm always willing to pay a little extra $$$ to avoid having to learn something new.

The price is a big difference.

The complete ball joint with base is 69.99 each for a total of
139.98 with free shipping.

The individual ball joints are two for 45.99 + 14.00 shipping for a total of 59.99 (eBay).

Danger Will Robinson, DANGER!

I'm not a huge fan of eBay or parts sold on there, quite frankly. If you can find this part by calling St. Charles Isuzu, then go for it - they'll be more than happy to offer up some advice on these. You might even find that they offer the same part at a similar price.

I don't know - the eBay thing always causes me to pause. I'll never put suspect parts in my truck when it comes to brakes or steering...

I was leaning to buying the complete ball joint so that I can have some spares as an emergency. Dont know how often they break. Considering that the upper and lower ball joints are the only things that hold the wheel in, I think they need to be very strong.

I feel the same way about Ebay; you have to be very careful. The price is sure great, but I think I will pass on them.

Thanks again for the help.
