I have a CEL on, so on lunch I ran over to Autozone to have it read. I get 2 codes. The first I expected and need to address, but it is the EGR(1406) code. The second is code 0300, which according to the clerk is misfiring.
They gave me little printouts of the codes..the 1406 code says EGR position sensor...which is common knowledge to me, since last time I cleaned it out, I didn't do a very good job. There is nothing on the 0300 code.
Now, this is why I ask about the timing belt. I am at ~100K, and have never had the timing belt replaced. It is going in tomorrow for it anyway(just in time for Moab) Could the timing belt be worn enough to cause a misfire?
If it isn't the timing belt, and the CEL light continues after I clean out the EGR tonight, does anyone have any other ideas?

Was it the random misfire code, or a specific cyl? The ECU should have specified which one.

I don't know. The clerk just said random misfire. No cylinder specified, and nothing on the little print-out I got.

ive been getting those. Mine usually just go away. I got a few of them cleared at uwharrie thanks to Bansil. As he stated it could be any number of things that set it off. See if the code clears soon if not you may just need to find a ODB2 and clear it. It could have just picked up one missfire and set off the light. may be nothing wrong with it.

I guess it could be the belt, 100k is getting toward the limit as I understand. Try running some BG44k through if you havent done fuel injector cleaner within the past year or so. Its an easy way to rule out dirty injectors and is just good to do. Is the engine stumbling at all? Is it running strong and getting good gas mileage?

TIMING BELT SHOULDN,T CAUSE A RANDOM MISSFIRE , HOWEVER A STICKY INJ , BAD PLUGS AND OR OIL IN THE PLUG TUBES WOULD DEFINATELY THROW A CEL LIGHT , MAKE CERTAN YOU HAVE THE CORRECT PLUGS AND THAT THERE IS NO OIL IN THE BOTTOM OF THE PLUG TUBES AND IF YOU CAN GET THE BG INJ CLEANER AND GIVE IT A SHOT IF IT HAS NEVER BEEN DONE TO YOUR ENG AND THEN POUR A CAN OF THE CLEANER IN THE FUEL TANK ALONG WITH A CAN OF DRY GAS OR A BOTTTLE OF RUBBING ALCOHOL YOU MAY BE GETTING WATER IN YOUR FUEL WHICH WILL CAUSE IT TO THROW RANDOM MISSFIRES ALLSO

I'd also check your gap on your plugs, or just replace them if you haven't already. When you remove the coils from the plug make sure you put some dielectric grease on the boots, that way they will come off easily in the future.

Is that BG44K available at any parts store? I would like to give this a shot before Moab.
I will probably change out the plugs...it hasn't been done for 3 years of so. That will probably have to wait until after Moab.

the only place to get it around here is NAPA. Plugs should only take about 45 min at the most if the BG doesnt work.
