Getting the Wheeling Fever
I have just bought a 1990 pickup with the 22re. Engine is a new rebuild with a new clutch as well. No engine mods. It has a 3" body lift with 33 12.5 wild country tires. Im looking for some upgrades that will give my stock setup some more power. Im a 19 year old college student who is hard pressed for money. So im kind of under a budget. I probly have about 500-700 to spend now and start working again soon so that will help too.

Tell me what you guys think. Thanks Brett

Regear to 4.88's. I've done a few things on that same truck and regearing has had the most bang for the buck. Just get it done right the 1st time.

The best thing you can do is REGEAR. Tire weight puts a lot of work on that little mill. Don't go screwin' with the rebuild in the meantime.

Welcome to the board!

Make sure your spare tire is the same diameter, and that you can get it down off the storage mount.

Hey thanks guys.
What kind of problems would i have if i just did the rear to start? Would there be any major problems if i put it in 4w wil just a rear set? Also i have been looking into getting a header from LC. Is it worth it to replace stock exhaust?

your rear diff is an 8" and the front is a 7.5" ifs diff. 4.88 was stock gears for v6 4runners that came with 31" tires from 1992 on i believe. its a bolt in swap.

87 4runner 33" bfg mt's no lift. dubbed the marine by my frinds. dead as of august 14 2005. 84 ex cab p/u 33"a/t, 3" suspension+3"bodylift, thorley header and 2.25xhaust, downey midrange cam+rocker set, very milled head! NO RUST!

It was v6 auto's both trucks and runners that came stock with 31's, the door tag would read G144, if you find them at a wrecking yard still in the truck. You can buy the complete oem diffs for about $150-200 each. I would wait until you get it regeard before buying any engine upgrades, you may find you don't need them.

Unless you get have your freewheeling hubs unlock. In fact, I do shift btwn 2H to 4L sometimes with my rear 4.88 & front 4.10. (until I get time to finish the front swap)
