I am installing a cooling fan from an air-conditioned raider on my non-air-conditioned raider......I got a couple of clean fans from air-conditioned raiders at the wrecking yard......I picked up a relay kit from Jegs that has a nice sender and relay switch that will switch on the power when the temp reaches 190 degrees......I tested the fans with a 12 volt power supply and they both work great....However...They have ballast resistors on them....When i apply power through the ballast, the fan runs slower than when i apply power directly to the fan motor bypassing the ballast.....I would like the faster speed of the fan for better cooling, but i am unsure if bypassing the ballast resistor will cause any adverse effects to the fan motor over time.....Did the ballast resistor server some other purpose related to the airconditiong system?.....Anybody out there have any thoughts on this......Electrical theroy is not my strong point, all though i do have a good working knowledge of it...
