Ok, I used to run RS5K series (5012's) in the rear of my runner and NEVER got wheel hop. I pulled them off b/c they were stiff as crap. Now I have no shocks, and went wheeling yesterday and got TONS of wheel hop in sand pit areas and stuff. My question is, if I get a softer shock, will I still have wheel hop. and by softer shock I mean somin like the Poly performances or some Bilsteins. Now i'm a bit scared to blow that kind of money and find out I get wheel hop. what do you guys think? is it just b/c I have no shocks?

do you have coils or springs in the rear of your runner? a buddy of mine has a 91' runner with the stock coils and coil spacers, he's running pro crap 3300's ( i dont know if these are a soft shock or not) and he has wheel hop with them all the time.

I got 3" Allpro's. I NEVER had wheel hop running the 5012's. Took them off, so now I have no shocks... LOTS of wheel hop. I'm just scared if I go to a softer spring like the billy's or poly's I'll have wheel hop. (granted i have NO shocks at the moment, but still). I'm just wondering if there is a corelation between soft(er) shocks and wheel hop?

Stiff shock = no hop....
No shock = lots of hop....
I'd guess that a softer shock = some hop...

Should not be a problem with a decent softer shock. The Rancho shocks tend to be a very simple design, one set valving that is stiff all the time. The better gas shocks tend to have variable damping, so they are stiffer when needed and then soften up when needed: - http://www.babcox.com/editorial/tr/tr30248.htm

good point roger. Well, if I go with the billy's or poly's I'll be sure to only buy 2 shocks. and try them out. before I buy all 4.
