after i did a clutch job on my '91 22RE pickup, it's made a bizarre rattle at an idle. almost like a timing chain, and i'd say it is, but i just replaced it 6 months ago and everything looks pretty much fine in there. valves are in spec too. it's a very LOUD rattle, usually a timing chain is quieter than this.

i did the screwdriver stethoscope thing, and most of the noise seemed to be coming from the body of the distributor. pulled that out, and well, there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with it. still spins smooth, doesn't walk around at all. timing light seems to jump ever so slightly every few seconds, but i'm not sure if that's a big deal.

anybody had this problem? i had a similar rattle once and the cam pin had broken, causing the cam gear to make all kinds of racket. this isn't the case here, gear is tight to the cam. any suggestions?
