I run both a Perma-cool eletric and a "Taurus" fan on 2 of my trucks. I would recomend the Taurus just because you can get them for cheap and they are great, I run the AC on the low speed and use the high speed on a temp sender. just make sure you use a big enough rated relay for the high speed as it takes some juice to run. Painless wireing sells a great wire harness w/ sender for this, I used the relay it came with to run the low speed(hooked tothe AC clutch) and a larger relay for the high speed(hooked to the temp sender).

It's been hot here in NJ the last couple of days and I've had no problems with my stock clutch fan in my 88 with the V6. Either you keep getting worn out clutch's or your cooling system isn't working properly. An electric fan is nice, but it won't run while you're sitting at idle until the truck really warms up. The stock clutch fan will spin at idle and should keep the temp at stock settings. I'd be looking at your radiator and cooling system before spending too much more on another fan that might not solve the problem.
And that rushing sound of air when you first start it is not the fan, it's the air going into the intake during the cold startup. You clutch fan(s) might be working fine but you've got air in the system or a clogged radiator.

And Kyron - yes I am replacing the whole fan actually. So far these have just been junkyard ones lol..maybe im just thinning out the herd and getting crappy ones everytime I go. Ill try the Stealership and see if a brand spankin new one solves the problem. If not, goodbye mechanical and hello electric lol Just buy the clutch part... that where the problem is

well, the rushing sound is definitley coming from the clutch fan on the startups. I had my friend start the truck (cold) when I had the hood open and I revved the engine a little bit with my hand behind the fan and it was pulling a crazy amount of air. After that rushing sound went away the fan was pulling 1/2 if not less the amount of air it previously was. I had the radiator pressure tested when the HG blew + whole system flushed. Monday ill get over to the dealer ship and see how much the assembly will cost me..and if its not too outrageous for it ill pick it up and slap it on. I hosed down the engine to get any mud/dirt off of it and same for the radiator. Sometimes though after the trucks warm and I shut it off, I goto re-start it and it makes 1 tiny click sound from the bed (fuel pump) but doesnt do anything. Turn the key again and then it starts up just fine. I'm getting baffled with this engine...im thinking a rebuild is at hand

Sounds like your stock clutch fan is working exactly the way it should then. It really sounds like there is something wrong with your cooling system or the truck is timed way too far advanced. I just hate to see people buying parts that won't fix the problem if the real problem hasn't been identified yet.

well..im gonna attempt to keep the thoughts of it being something wrong with the engine again...so lets start little here. What is the timing suppose to be at for a 22re 4x4 5spd P/U? and, should a Clutch Fan spin by hand fairly easily or sorta hard? I've never dealt with them before..
