personally i use the good ol stock system,from what i understand the hei dont help unless you run really high rpm's alot.that is only because it dont cut out like a points dist does. I would however run it in a stroker engine,that may actually benifit the stroker.

Cuervo How could it benefit?
That said if I ever build a stroker with injection, even I might just put one of the yellow or bright red ignitions in it just for pretty.

After some thought one thing the HEI or TFI may have over the stock setup, in my 87 YJ at least, is it may be more water resistant. The advance arm in my stock dist is exposed. I thought that it was missing a cover when I bought it so I went to get another and the new one was open too. Susceptible to allowing water in the opening for the advance. I actually would like to keep the stock setup and maybe seal the distributor somehow. A good wave of water will cause problems. To answere your question BJ the stroker is able to run higher rpm's and if i build one by God i will use them.
as far as sealing the distributor on the stock system check out jegs or summit the usually have rubber boots that slip over the distributor.they may have what you are looking for.
Oh and BJ i made huge waves with my pick-em-up i hits water and really watery mud hard and fast <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> but that had hei from the factory .i added a sillycon bead on the inside of the cap and a boot for extra measures.i built that truck for offroading and wanted to cover all the bases.

Strokers CAN hit higher RPM's, but they are actually worse at it than a modified 4.0. When you stroke something, you increase the amount the piston moves up and down. You have more momentum in the system, which means it is harder for the pistons to change direction. If you rebalance the crank and such, it'll rev nice. Look at diesels; they are the ultimate strokers... Strokers make gobs of torque and a really well balanced one will spin up.

Everything Sunder said...and.. The only reason I can see ANYONE on this site stroking their engine is to produce more torque below 2500 rpm. Improving the off idle performance is what stroking the six is all about. NOT higher rpm. BIG holes and small rods is what makes rpm advances.. Best example I can think of would be the 69 302 sbc. A 350 cylinder and a 283 rod and crank made for 302 cubes and if you dared 8,000rpm. That thing would just keep climbing.. But stroking a six is backwards from the 302. We increase the stroke to make more grunt.
