Long story short: I'm putting a JDM Toyota diesel into my '92. I had to get a flywheel from Australia. Everything I've read and heard, from very reliable sources, confirms that any standard 22r(e) clutch kit will work with the flywheel I got. Problem is, I've gotten two different clutch kits from my local Napa and neither pressure plate fits my flywheel. One was too large, the other too small. Each time, the holes in the pressure plate ALMOST lined up with the dowels in the flywheel, but were off by maybe 1/8" or so.
If anyone has a 22r flywheel sitting around, can you do me a huge favor and measure the center-to-center distance between any of the three dowel pins on the flywheel? Mine measure out at about 9.25".
Thanks.

I just measured one of mine and it is 9" center to center. You may not have the correct flywheel. Mine is off of an 88 4Runner. I got my clutch from Schuck's this last time. I have purchased them from Napa in the past too. HTH Jeff

Crap... I thought that might be the case. The holes in the pressure plate I have right now are just about 9" center to center as well.
I really appreciate the help, thanks.

It needs eight bolts, unfortunately. But aside from that, the diesel flywheel weighs ~50 lbs, so the driveability might suffer if I stuck a 25 or 30 pounder on there.

Hey, those are some good photos... never seen those ones before.
But, around the late 80s they came out with a revised version of the L diesel (actually the 2L diesel) which is the 2LII. The 2LII diesel flywheels have 8 bolt holes. But, most of the 2LII diesels came with a screwy dual-mass flywheel, so most people upgrade to a 3L (next version) solid flywheel, which is what I thought I got from a guy in Oz, but now I'm starting to wonder. It did fit very well on the crank though.
