Getting the Wheeling Fever
I am in the process of swaping the motor and 5speed transmission from a rusted out 86 turbo pickup into my 87 turbo 4runner with an auto. Everthing is going alright so far but im not sure what i should do about the neutral/park safety switch/sensor. If anyone could give me advice about tricking the sensor so the my 4runner will start up that would be great.

Roll Me Over
If you have the ecu from the turbo truck, you should swap it as well, then you wouldn't have to worry about the neutral/park safety switch/sensor.

More than tread lightly. Leave it like you were never there, nor anyone else.

Body Damage is Cool
If he wants to swap in the new (used) ECU will he have to swap wiring harnesses as well? If so that would be pretty drastic.

I'm pretty sure it's fairly easy to run a manual tranny in a 4runner wired for an automatic. I've been studying the issue because I have a wiring harness and ECU from an auto tranny 4runner that I want to install in my carbureted, manual trans '84 to upgrade it to EFI.

A lot of people on the Marlin Crawler board have done the tranny swap and they say it's a 'piece of cake'. Here's a Marlin thread on that topic -- Matt Tranny Swap Thread
