Besides making a very loud bellowing the other day, my A/C compressor is spitting out burnt rubber or plastic when the A/C switch is on!
There is a crease between the pully and the front of the clutch mechanism where the junk is coming out of.
Tried it out again tonight and I thought it was locked solid because smoke and burnt rubber smell was coming from the hood as soon as I pushed in the button. When I took a closer look it was not the belt, but from the clutch of the compressor.
Is it possible my clutch is just bad and not the whole compressor?

No I would say the compressor is frozen and the clutch is slipping!!!!

Agree that you have a seized up compressor and you are just burning the clutch when you turn it on.. The clutch will very much have an odor like burning rubber or an electrical fire when you got it on with the compressor seized up... Been there...

PM sent.
Anyone ever get a compressor from ackits.com? They only want 2 bills for the one they have. I purchased some parts from them a year ago and found them to be really helpful over the phone. A dryer/expansion valve (which is what I purchased) is different than a compressor though.

I've been running my compressor from ackits for my 3rd summer now and it works fine. You might need a new dryer as well as flushing the system to remove any junk.

Hmm. Not sure what you mean by the pulley. Everything works fine as long as the A/C button isn't pushed in though.
Anyone have any ideas if this could have happened from something I did wrong when I installed this? It worked fine last summer and several times this season... Just want to make sure I don't mess something up again if I did something wrong the first time. I would think something wrong would have shown its face earlier though....
