Getting the Wheeling Fever
|
On the way home for my most recent off roading excursion my transmission (G52) started to leak gear oil through the weep hole in the bottom of the bellhousing. I havent lost a drop of engine oil so the rear main seal should be intact yet and the clutch still grabs just as good as well.
From everything that i have found searching on this leak it is more than likely the input seal at the front of the trans. However, I can only find directions how to pull and install the trans. Looked at the FSM and Haynes Manual and didnt see the seal in the tranny diagrams.
Has anyone replaced this seal and have a good idea or tips on how to do this? I ordered up the seal from Toyota today.
Thank you very much!

I am getting ready to replace all my tranny/transfer seals as part of a major rehab. I suspect it will be straightforward enough once the tranny is out & accessable though. At least I *hope* so <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Does anyone happen to have a picture or diagram where exactly this seal is located? I didnt see it in the FSM that's linked at the top of the forum. When I ordered the part from the dealer it looked like there was some cover over it but it would be nice to hear first hand from someone that's done it.
Also, outta curiosity, I called a couple places to see how much they would want to replace it for me and they are all asking around $500 to do it (with the $7 seal and gear lube they added) LOL! Is this really that tough of a job or they just dont want to mess with it? Seems fairly straight forward to pull the trans and tcase.
Thanks!
**Edit** I have a 2" BL on the truck so the top bellhousing bolts dont look too hard to get at.
