Getting the Wheeling Fever
I have an 87 Toy p/u with a 22R engine. I need to replace the brake rotors. I am thinking of trying out some slotted and cross-drilled. Any particular brands of rotors better than others?

Thanks,
rick

If you plan to run this truck in mud, sand or anything but smooth pavement, you might want to think about what happens to all the dirt that get smeared into those slots, and holes, especially when the pads start smearing it around and around. I guess it can get wiped off and gets stuck in the slots instaed of between the pad and rotor. Just a thought, no experience there.

Bremco and Baer are two popular quality brands. No personal experience with them on 4x4s, but only on my vettes. The benefit to drilled or slotted is quicker heat dissapation. If you are off-roading, they may be more of a hazard. If you tow or haul and your vehicle is used for street only, then on a 4x4 they may be some help. Personally, I don't think they are worth the $300 for a pair. If you feel you need more braking power, then perhaps there is a problem with your brake system. If you are going for bling, they do look impressive when you can see the rotors through wheels!
Gnarls.

I put Raybestos Superstop drilled/slotted rotors on my wife's Jeep GC. Drilled/slotted rotors can look cool and OK for the street but I don't think I'd want do any serious offroading with them. I've heard that running them through really cold water by crossing a good sized river or stream after getting them real hot decending a trail can create cracks around the holes. Here an interesting article I google'd up on the subject http://www.superchargersonline.com/content.asp?ID=98

For an offroaded truck the slotted only ones may be OK. IMHO for more steet over trail performance the vented rotor would be a even better upgrade for your toyota. Check them out at http://www.trail-gear.com/brake.html. You can also get some V6 calipers as an upgrade if you got an old truck like me.

I'd stay away from the drilled/slotted rotors. Pesonally I perfer the Toyota factory solid rotor design. This rotor design is trail tough and stops more than good enough for me. Plus the price is right, just bought a set of Raybestos PG Plus solid rotors with pads to match at Rock Auto. Here's a 5% discount code 414077336328 that you can use if you want to go and check them out.

Does nybody have experience/opinion on the Beck/Arnley rotors, model 0832198?
As far as I can tell (from descriptions) their vented but not cross-drilled, to me this seems a good match for an off=road truck.

At AutoZone/Advance, only $26 - not bad for vented - but for some reason AZ only provides 3 mo warranty?

Body Damage is Cool
They'll probably warp quickly.

Best I've found for the price was Brembo rotors.
Paid $35 each from "thepartsbin.com" a few years back. Now they're like $43 each.

IMHO Beck/Arney quality is not what it used to be. Was disapointed with the last couple beck/arney parts I bought. I just got through doing a complete front brake job and found Raybestos PG plus rotors (RAYBESTOS Part #9213) for about what I was gonna pay for junk at the local fast food auto parts. Shipping was a few days and I got pads and studs to match and the total price was great on these parts too. Check them out http://www.rockauto.com. Below is my 5% discount code so you can save a little more with them if you do see the price/quality is right for you.
