V-6 for I-4 #730566 06/12/06 05:35 AM

What would it take for a V6 to replace my 2.3L? Would the 5speed tranny mate up to it? Would I need to make new motor mounts? Whole new drive train? Was thinking of replacing my 2.3 for a V-6 (2.8 or 4.3) if it doesn't cost too much on fabrication and such. Any help would be helpful. Thanks!! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/patriot.gif" alt="" />

On an 86, it is going to be totally custom with a new tranny to go with the new engine. Then you will have to fab up cross members, motor mounts and then fix the driveshafts to fit the new combo. Plus, the wiring, the plumbing, and the ECU to drive the new motor. No small task.

In short, you would be better off buying a v6 Trooper. Even if it had a blown 2.8, you could still swap the 3.4 and be happy, but putting it in your, while not impossible, would be a long row to hoe.

Good Luck,
Michael

Well that sucks! Reckon I better find me another 4 cyl. Maybe I could find a 2.6 w/ all the wiring and such. We'll see.
Thanks Michael

All you really need is the 4ze1 engine. With a minor amount of adjustments, you can run that engine with your carb and intake manifold.
