Getting the Wheeling Fever
|
Just last weekend I suddenly left the road doing 50+. As I cleared the 3' culvert drop hit the slope which thru me about 30' before ending up in a hay field. Front axle, Control Arm-upper&lower and steering relay rod, ball joints, etc. etc. My question is finding the best deals and parts. For example I can get Front axles from Marlin Crawler which seem to be pretty beefy and might be a good upgrade, but they are expensive. Any help ideas from all gear heads would be appreciated. Thanks Bigdog

Dukes of Hazzard style right there.... General Lee'n it.
Use Moog Chasis parts (Ball joints and TRE's). Try to find a Tropical Int. parts supplier in your area. they have pretty good prices on Moog parts.

Thanks too all you guys, I came out of it fine just crush by my own problems of being Diabetic. Drove my truck basicly passout from Low-Bloodsugar for about 25miles over cruvey counrty roads. I was very forunate not to hurt anyone else, and the problem of kind has never happen before in the 43 years that I have been a Diabetic,(and having this truck for 11years) this will take some serious self-refelection about my condition. But saving money on the rebuild would help. The upper control-arm thru Toyota is 318.78 Steering Knuckle is 286.40 and Front axle shaft is 116.00 and this is a IFS truck, does anyone have ideas on a source for better prices. Thanks Bigdog I'll try to post some pic's

I'm glad you're okay! If you're lucky, there is someone in your area who has performed an SAS on their truck and now has the parts you need laying in their yard or garage. Good Luck.

Check Pirate4x4 or Marlin crawler forums sections for people in your area that has done an SAS. Some cut everything off and others take the time to unbolt it, even the ones that cut the top A-arms off the rest should be in good shape. Also check the local wrecking yards, you could probably find everything that that you need there, at far less than dealer prices. I would think that you should be able to get all of the pieces you used for less than the dealer price for just the A-arm. Used cv axles sell for about $20-30, the upper A-arms should be free-from a private party to about $100 from a wrecking yard, etc. I would buy new ball joints, tie rod ends, pitman and idler arms over installing used, unless they are comming off an SAS'd rig and don't have that many miles on them.
