Getting the Wheeling Fever
Kind of an off the wall sitution / question: My automatic antenna mast broke, and for reasons I won't get into I had to splice in a section of new coaxial to reconnect the antenna once the new mast was installed. I tested the continuity with the new section of coax before I finished, and I got great reception (even better that before) on both FM and AM. Once I buttoned everything back up and started drving around, I noticed that while I still get great FM reception, I get next to no AM reception. Very strange. Does anyone have any insight, or suggestion on how to improve my AM reception? Thanks in advance. (Note that I no longer have the factory Toyota radio, but that my AM reception worked fine with my aftermarket deck before the mast broke and I had to repair the antenna line.)

Yep, esp in remote areas up here.

Why not just get a new length of coax so you don't have to worry about the shielding? That might be your trouble in part.
