Leave the intake manifold bolted to the head, just disconnect all vac, fuel and coolant lines before lifting. Will save you about an hours time and half a box of bandaids. Clearly label everything so you can reconnect electrical and lines correctly.

Take your time, slow may cost you an extra day....rushing may cost you alot more $$ and time waiting on replacement parts that were broke while rushing.

Don't forget the bolt that goes from the front of the head down into the timing cover. It is burried in oil and located just below the distributor drive on the front of the cam. It is a 12mm head bolt. Most people don't know about this and can easily cause a big headache.

Make sure you get a tap and clean the headbolt threads real good before reassembly, some of them will be pretty sludged up.

The head bolts are 12mm x1.25mm pitch. I had to search a little to find one.

Why are you taking the TC cover off if you're only replacing a piston and rod ? Also, you don't need to remove the intake, just the exhaust manifold. I just replaced a #2 piston with a cracked skirt and it's not necessary to remove the cover, unless you're replacing the chain or guides, of course. Use q-tips to clean out the oil and grime from those head bolt holes. When assembling, only torque that little top front head bolt to 8-10ftlbs.
