Getting the Wheeling Fever
I have a 97 Wrangler, and notice when it rains the passenger floor carpet getting wet, and this past storm, I have water standing on the passenger floor.

Does the coweling air vent have a drain somewhere that may have gotten clogged? (and where is the drain?)
Or is there something else leaking?

Appreciate the suggestons
Doug

Check in the jeep archive section, This is a very popular question that is very well covered

I found the best way to clear the drain is to remove the cowl cover (between the hood and the windshield on a TJ) and physically remove the debris which are blocking the drain at the bottom. If you simply run a wire up from the bottom of the drain you can remove some of the garbage but it will plug up again (especially if you deal with lots of mud). It wasn't hard and should eliminate the problem for a longer period of time, note when the cowl drain becomes plugged it will submerge your windshield wiper motor (on a TJ)- not a good thing.

Good point, I hadn't even thought about the wiper motor.
I havn't found a drain hose yet either, in the archives someone posted that there was a large hose that resembeled an elephant trunk that ran from the fire wall somewhere down close to the starter....that I should have seen and didn't, he must have a different model jeep.

Gotta do something soon, the wife is complaining about her wet shoes every morning...lol

How do you remove the coweling on a TJ??? I am guessing a bunch of screws everywhere?

The coweling is the GRILL between the hood and the windshield. The screws are on the OUTSIDE looking UP!
The drain hose is very obvious.. It does not hang to the starter it is up high next to the firewall under the hood..

Hay, I found the drain, Looks well designed, big plastic plenum on the fire wall that tapers down and has a rubber end, just like the guy said...like an elephant trunk. And the coweling looks easy to remove, however it is clean inside.
When I get home I will run a garden hose into the coweling to see if that plenum is blocked. Otherwise I am guessiing that maybe the coweling has a leak or need re-caulking?

Any ideas??

Why don't you lift the carpet or otherwise check real good to see if it has coolant in the liquid.. It is a common thing for the HEATER CORE to leak and it is directly above the passengers feet! If it does dry out after a rain then it is not the heater core.

I've had a puddle on the floor as well. turned out the top wasnt quite on right. I found out when i was driving home and it started to rain pretty good, and soon enough from the top corner water just started rolling in. It wasnt a drip either <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/zombie.gif" alt="" />
just had to adjust the top and good to go.
