Joel, you're gonna love that '02 Trooper. What else can you buy for $8,500 that has the capacity for 4 large adults, plus lots of gear, with a strong V6 and over-built as the Trooper, for $8,000, and only 34K miles? And yes, you could have paid at least $500 less if you would have negotiated - that's why he was surprised.

As for depreciation, your 2002 Trooper S 4WD had a sticker price of approximately $30,814 (going by my window sticker). So, in 4.5 years it has lost over 70% of the sticker value. If the original purchased paid about $22,500, which is what you could get one for, it still depreciated over 60%. Not good resale value, but great for picking one up for a steal of a deal...

Great buy. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Yeah, it's a lot of fun. I know I could have knocked another $500 or so off, but people were showing up (unannounced) to look at it within 10 minutes of me getting to the seller's house.

It was worth paying a $500 premium to have this truck. I've been looking for a few months and haven't found anything even close to it.

Isuzu's are like disposible cameras. Tough, simple, last forever, and when you are done with them you throw them away and get another cheap one on sale that no one wants.

Cheer up, you will sell it eventually. I would try eBay. Cars generally go for higher on eBay than in the private market.

Thanks for the encouragement folks. Any reference is appreciated. As you might tell from the photos on my web-site (http://mysite.verizon.net/res70rgm/trooper) it's very clean and in excellent shape, only used for kid transport and never anything even resembling off-raod. I can't justify selling for what I've had offers for because I've owned the title since 2002. The first owner 10/120 powertrain and my upgraded 10/100 bumper-bumper at the very least makes it a sure footed tertiary vehicle through 2011.

Wish me luck!

So... why are you selling it? It's under warranty for you, and you said you've had no problems with it. Just curious. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Need a Spot
I just bought a 99 trooper w/ 143k miles on it (manual) for $3000. I put some new cooper SST's (very happy with)and it's running great. it burns some oil but that's a small sacrifice for having such a great looking and performing SUV.

The funny thing is i've had an 87 GTA, 94, & 98 Trans Ams as my last 3 cars and i wanted to sell my automatic 98 T/A for a manual one but this deal came along at my job and i liked it so much i bought it before i sold the trans am and i wasnt even looking for an suv at all! i sold the trans am the next week! and that trans am was for sale for about 6 months! you cant hurry when selling. I was able to keep all the extra money i kept from the trans am to bay off the school loans i have since i'll graduate next year. My point is if your selling be patient and someone will eventually see the value in it. people are into suv's now and a 6cyl foreign made DOHC engine sounds better on gas than an 8 cylinder explorer. I think it looks better too. its not as wide so easier to drive with same or more room inside! I've used autotrader with an ad that doesnt expire and i think it's the best way to go. auction style sites run the auction too short and not everyone will see it in that time period. autotrader everyone sees the price if they like they call, see it, buy it. no wait for auctions to end and guessing final prices. Just my opinion.
