Well, you'll need a way to bolt it down, I imagine the hardtop attachment kits are the bolts and special nuts. The nuts are rectangular and made to fit inside the channel the hardtop sits on, at least on my CJ they are. If the kit is cheap, probably a good investment.

In addtion to those nuts and bolts that were mentioned to you already, the kit likely includes the hardward used to attach the hard top to the windshield frame.

However, the person you're buying the hardtop from may include all of that stuff with the top, so I'd wait until you have the top in hand before spending money on a kit.

John I have added a hard top to quite a few Jeeps. I have found adding two strips of the sticky soft rubber tape to the sealing area of the windshield frame (where the top will sit) and then adding one strip to the side rails of the Jeep, keeps any unwanted rain or dust out of the Jeep.
Then I set the top in place and SHUT the doors making sure the top isin correcty for the doors to work..

THEN I always put a friend up on the top. I have him SIT on the top in the middle of the windshield. His weight insures a leak proof seal while I install the screws to hold the top in place to the frame of the windshield.

THEN I check the door fit again. Next I install the hold down bolts to the side rails. I ALWAYS use the nuts with NYLON in them so they will not shake loose. Nothing is worse than having the top come off at sixty miles an hour on a busy hiway.

The windshield is adjustable forward and backward by way of the roll-over frame. The adjustment is controlled with the bolts on the TOP of the frame. I have found several Jeeps that needed the windshield moved one way or another to make the new top fit correctly to the doors.

Hopefully this will help in your install.

I have a 99 so it most likely like mine. Just make sure it comes with the bolts for the sides, and for the windshield, the clamps are attached to the top. Just have someone sit in the front seat to make sure when you place the top on the windshield the clamp doesnt get squished between the windshield and the top. and move the sun visors to the side, makes it a little easier. one more thing i was always told not to slide it around if you have to adjust it. for instance if you have to move it forward to get it to sit on the windshield a little better. pick it up and move it cause you could mess up the seal on the windshield.

good luck <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Hard tops are heavier...something to think about.

thanks, will think about it while offroading...

but more secure, hold in A/C better, the windows dont get all the scratches that the plastic ones get in the woods, quieter on the highway and they dont get that 'inflated' look when the A/C is cranking...hahaahaa..

looked into the weather stripping, shouldnt need it. the TJ has a pretty stout strip of it still in great shape, and the screws are not needed to secure the top to the windshield..

thanks again guys...the project starts in 3 hours..woohoooo..
