Getting the Wheeling Fever
Hello all. My 92 Trooper S (3.2, SOHC) suddenly started to idle high upon startup, and after about 5 minutes, the check engine light comes on, and it settles down and seems to run fine. The check engine light stays on until you re start the vehicle. This is at a hot or cold start, pretty much the same. I changed the Idle Air Control about 2 years ago, so I didn't think it would be that. I knew how to pull the codes on my '88, but I don't know how on this one. Can anyone help me with this?

Many of the chain stores will check the codes for you for free. Advance autoparts, autozone etc. Then you can google the code or search the forums.

yes

Ok, hereÆs what you do ( i have a 92 trooper, and it took me forever to find this out, æcause most books have the location *all* wrong)à

Anyway, itÆs real easy

1. Look up above the accelerator pedal and/or *gently* pull down any wires that will come down from that area. There will be three connectors, see photo (which is an isuzu photo from alldata).
The green one is for the transmission û donÆt mess with it.

The c207 white single one is not the one you want.

The c205 aldl (assembly line diagnostic link) is the one you want.

2. you will jump the two outer slots with a piece of wire. ThatÆs terminals C and A.

you will do this with the engine off. And then you will turn the ignition key to on, but not starting the truck.

3. you will then ôreadö the codes which are shown as blinks of the red Check Engine Light on the dash. This can be tricky at first, but donÆt worry, they will repeat three times anyway, and you can start all over again anytime.

The counting: you count the flashes. The first number is always 12, (which shows the thing is working correctly). ItÆs one quick flash, followed by two quick flashes; then pause, then a trouble code number (if any), pause, another number if any, etc.

ThereÆs a whole list of numbers. (This system is not as complete as the newer diagnostic systems.) write the numbers down, then post them here for an answer from the crowd.

Btw, the number will point you in the direction of the system that caused the code to come up, but not necessarily the specific part in that system. For example, an egr code could be the egr valve, or vacuum hose attached to it, or sensor, etc.\

//hope this helps

Thanks TrooperBC, I've been steered to the wrong location on this plug also. CPOM, the chain stores don't do it on these older models, just the '96 and up. I'll post my codes here and hope someone can help me. Thanks again.

Hey TrooperBC, thanks again, it worked. I looked up the codes on troublecodes.net, and I started another post to ask what I need to do.
