I just did a cluster upgrade on our project, spedo only to SR5, plug and play, very nice.
I had noticed the old temp gauge jumping up rather soon so I took the time to clean the contacts on the 'new' one (no star washer though) before install and the problem went away, now I have a smooth climb as the temp rises. Just to see I took the old cluster, cleaned it and hooked it back up and what do you know, smooth as silk.
SO, if you have temp indication problems this is definitly the first place to look.

I picked up one of these rad. cap/temp. gages. It appears to be accurate. Easy install! You gotta pop the hood to see the temp.,though. But what about us with the little filler necks? The one I have has the smaller filler neck (I have an aftermarket radiator) Mr. Gasket part#2472S

All my gauges seem to be just a little smoother and more responsive since I cleaned everything up. If I wasn't deathly afraid of bringing the problem back by taking it all apart again, I might take the star washer out and see what happens. That copper polish did bring every last one of the contacts back to absolutely 100% non-oxidized shiny.

I tried the fix yesterday to no avail...
I loosened up all the ground terminals, cleaned under them, and put the screws back in. Fired it up, and it was instantly just under 1/2, like it always is.
Oh, well... I guess I will be installing an aftermarket gauge in the dash using the block drain...

Shoot, that's disappointing I keep getting the feeling like I'm running on borrowed time, and one of these times when I start it up, the problem will be right back there.
