hey all

First of all happy 4th!!

I was wondering if anyone had any insight as to the benefits(?) of using the ECT PWR button. I have a 94 22RE with a newly rebuilt engine. Rebuild completed last November. The only upgrade I want to add is a newer exhaust. It was bored .20 over and has an EB 268 cam otherwise its basically stock.

I had read another post where the person had some combination of the ECT PWR and the Overdrive. Are there any power/gas mileage benefits to a combination of the two? The only thing the owners manual says about the ECT PWR button is that it give more powerful accelleration. Just wondering if anyone knew any more detailed info concerning this feature.

thanks JIM

Check out Techical Article #16 at http://autoshop101.com/
One would assume normal mode would be the best mileage.

ECT lets the motor rev higher before it shifts, kinda like the tow/haul mode on the new GM trucks...

I had one of those GMC trucks and the tow haul mode changed its shifting according to the weight. If i pressed that with an empty bed, it drove normally, add weight, it drove in higher gears but would still go into OD on very gradual down hills. THe ECT power just holds gears for longer, good for getting on short highway ramps, and using more fuel.
OD off is for towing and heavy loads that cause gear hunting on hills. Some people say OD is for highway and not city use, but thats up to you really.

Benefit = get some more power, since in stock form alot of it in the 22re is closer to the higher RPMs.
Downside = poorer gas mileage.

O/D is basically just 4th gear. Lets you decide if you want the idiot tranny in 3rd or 4th. Nice on the highway b/c you can cruise @70 mph and low RPMs. Personally, w/ stock tires I almost always leave mine on, and leave ECT off. Improves mileage. However, you'll never feel like you're getting somewhere fast, if that's an issue for you.
