Getting the Wheeling Fever

In my manual it talks about greasing the steering knuckles. I says to remove two screws and grease and replace screws. I can't seem to find these. The upper ball joints have grease fittings. Are they talking about the lower ball joints when they say steerings knuckles? I do see a small hex bolt on the inside of the lower ball joint. I need a little help here.BTW '88 4wd pickup. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

This info is from my '88 factory service manual. I didn't see anything in there about referencing '85 and earlier models.????

This info is from my '88 factory service manual. I didn't see anything in there about referencing '85 and earlier models.???? I could be talkin out my butt, it's been a long time since I've worked on IFS. I just checked my 88FSM and it does say that, but it points to the ball joints.

Thanks for looking. Now you can see why I'm confused. I have changed every fluid on this truck and lubed every fitting but can't figure this one out. I'm just trying do thoroughly due all my maintainance. Anyone else out there who can comment on this.

Thanks 4crawler, Can't say I saw anything definitive there. I wonder if they are just talking about the ball joints? I did read something about the bushings in the steering knuckles, but I don't see how those could be lubed after installed. At least I feel less stupid since you guys with more experience aren't sure either.

The IFS upper ball joints ship with a bolt in place of a zerk. Replace the bolt with an angled zerk and you will be good to go.
