There'a the ol' timer's copper penny trick... melt a penny on a hot piece of shaft and lift up to patch hole. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/notooth.gif" alt="" />

how about this degrease and wire brush it down instead of JB weld ( which can get brital) how about glass or cloth mesh and epoxy, I would put thin coats of epoxy let dry sand then a other thin coat and so on. steel bondo and mesh might work also. John

Never used JB weld, but at work we use somthing simular called Def-Con

One time while doing an overhaul on a large V-12 White Superior engine (7500 Cubic Inch) Someone who will remain nameless grinded a little to much of the block away while cutting out the lower cylinder liner. we were doing a liner fit. We used Def-Con to fill the gash, when it was set we machined the lower clyinder and fit a new liner. The engine is running fine.

Long story short, if this stuff can hold together under the internal pressure of a large engine that runs non stop for anywhere from 2 to 10 years under load all the time, then I think it should hold a small patch on a sporty's oil pan!

Appreciate the recent thoughts. This thread dates back to last July. It got revived with the question about lifts (???).

Anyway, I sold the Sportage last September so it's a moot point. With the leaking oil pan and the new owner knew exactly what he was facing. Last I heard my old truck is still running and they STILL have not fixed the leak in the pan. I'm afraid one of these days it's going to pop and they'll lose all the oil and ruin the engine. But I guess it's not my problem.
