Need a Spot
My Parking and Interior lights quit working over the weekend. I have ruled out a blown or cracked fuse. What should I look into next? I can bypass the light switch if needs be but would like to see if there are any easier options. I would also like to see if it is the switch without having to pull the steering wheel to check/replace the switch.

Thanks in advance for any pointers.

Kevin

A couple of more questions: By interior lights do you mean the dash lights or the dome/courtesy lights. Do the headlights work OK?

This is from a 97 electrical manual so hope it is the same. The parking lights get power from the tail light relay, which is controlled by the combination headlight switch. That relay feeds 12V to the 15A tail light fuse. See if you have voltage coming into that fuse from the relay. You ought to be able to hear or feel(if you hold a finger on it) the relay kick in when the light switch is turned on. The tail light realy should be in the driver's side kick panel, the upper right relay. There is a start.

Sorry for the multi-posts. Keep getting interrupted. If it is your dash lights that are out, they get their voltage from the same tail light relay, so sounds like that 15A fuse, the tail light relay, and the light-combo switch are the common points. The light/combo switch provides a ground to operate that relay. If the relay isn't working, to check the switch, pull the relay out. the pins are numbered

if you look at the plug the relay came out of. 1 should go to ground when the comb switch is turned on. 2 should be 12V, and 3 goes to that 15A tail light fuse.

Pins did not come out as typed. Pin 1 is the far left. Pin 3 is the top most. 2 is below 3. How the hell do you type a diagram?

Thanks for your replies. The instrument panel lights, parking lights and tail lights are the ones that are not working. The headlights are working fine. Where is the relay that runs these? I will try breaking out my multimeter and checking the fuse that is listed for the lights. I believe that fuse would be the top right on the driver's side kick panel??? The cover to the fuse box is missing so I have no map of what fuse goes to what.

Thanks again,

Kevin

Yes, the fuse is top right. As per earlier post, relay is above that fuse, top-right most relay.

Gary,

THanks a million for all your help! It ended up being a loose relay, I crimped the ends and have not had any problems since.
