I just picked up an 86 trooper TD in need of some freshening up motor wise,w/271,000 orig. miles!!!
I purchased this very clean rig in Wa. state.I changed and topped off some or the essentials, along w/ fuel and air filters, pcked up some emergency tools @ Wally world(I Vacationing w/ my lady in my 05 VW Golf TDI ¬ planning on buying anything @the time),and off we went back home to Denver Co.from the Seattle area 1,350 miles w/ a,"what am I getting into feelling in my head"
After the first 100 miles @3150 rpm I took an exit ramp ,engine went to idle & the oil death light came on,the pressure gauge was conveniently not working.
With anything over 900 RPM it quickly extinguishes.
At a minimal load at 35 mph the engine surges,but w/ a load w/ resistance over 50 mph it doesn't surge--works correctly.. Oil consumption @ 1000 mi.was approx.1/4 a quart or less,mostly from external leaking,and power was pretty good.
On long up hill grades engine temps would rise dangerously close to boiling over & the truck was lightly loaded.
@ mile #1189,the engine stopped for 5 seconds and then continued as normal,@65 mph.,then 90 miles later again for 8 sec.,then25 mi.for10 sec.& again twice more until it ended up @ the end of a strap behind the VW,for the rest of the trip to Denver.
I suspected the fuel cut out solenoid I jumped it/no go,soo I'm assuming the fuel pump.
I would like to re-bearing the crank, replace the oil pump, crank seals,Re-build the fuel pump and increase the fuel delivery to 130HP advance the timing,Intercool it and increase the cold side displacement of the turbo.,Yes I will be running pyro& boost gauges.
Can anyone help me w/ some experience on this C223T motor? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />
