Getting the Wheeling Fever

hey yall i just got my 1988montero from down southtexas from my folks and brought it up here and while i was down there. the thing has been siting for 5years, i found problems some which were the 1-the carb is messy and the lines are all mixed up. 2-something keeps draining the battery, dont know what maybe yall do? 3-the montero takes an eternity to start up! after say 15minutes the engine will start up but then die probably because of the carb issue. Im gonna get a new carb anyone have any suggestions ? say holley, weber, maybe one on ebay?

15 Minutes to start, well at least you found what was killing the battery...the starter
If it's been sitting 5 years the gas is bad. I would empty the tank by the drain plug. Replace the fuel filter, Fuel Pump and Carb. The fuel pump is diaphragm type and most likely dried out and cracked, ditto on the carb especially the depression chamber. I would just get a re-maned carb from FC products if you want to go OEM. Otherwise if your in a real mess and don't have emmissions you can get a Weber.
Once you get it started and warmed up you will want to change the oil ASAP. Then again, you will want to change every fluid in the entire truck.
