Getting the Wheeling Fever
I own a 91 4runner with 120k on the clock. I am moving to Arizona in a month and wanted to know would be good preventative maintenance for the trip down and the change in environment (like 110 degrees during the day) so far I am going to do the usual oil change I thought I might put a cooler running thermostat in even though I have never had any overheating problems? oh yeah and i have a 22RE
Anything else?

thanks

If your coolent & hoses are in good shape & the radiator isn't stuffed with bugs, I'd say you're good to go. Changing to a cooler t-stat will just mean it be wide open a few degrees sooner in the hot weather. I'd keep it stock, *if* you have problems, you need radiator work, not a cooler t-stat.

Where in AZ are you moving?
Given your name, are you a guitar player?

x2

My motor started running a little warm at 60MPH, A/C on full blast, in 114 degree heat.
I still had MUD packed in my 3 core radiator (fan side) from last March. Soak her down and clean her out, done!

20W50 weight oil.Top off the trans and diffs, grease your u-joints and McGuires the hell out of the paint. Last but not least break your spare loose from under the truck. Believe me you'll need it.
I left Tucson a long time ago for the PNW. Haven't torn a tire open since.

you will def want your ac in tip top shape. it dosn't cool down til the end of october. i have made the trip from ny to az several times in my toy. not really a big deal. change the oil right b4 you go. either change the belts and hoses or have some spares. maybe plugs, wires, cap and rotor. rear dif fluid and trans fluid if they have never been done. about all you can do.....

Read the anti-theft sticky in the Runner section. Yotas are targets.

Yep, another for the AC and the spare tire system check.
