Getting the Wheeling Fever
I know this site is geared to the 4x4 crowd but I need some input from people with experience and I know you guys are here. I am looking at a 91 Dolphin 22 footer. 3.0 engine and auto with o/d . The owner is firm on the $8200 price and it has abook of $9600. Its has 70,000 mi and is in very good shape, good tires, 2 awnings, generator etc. I have tested a few 4 cyl models but the were way under powered. This one seems to much peppier. Are these engines good ones and are there any down sides to this set-up?. Thanks for any info.

The most common complaint/problem w/ the 3.0 is headgasket failure. With the weight of this vehicle, I'd guess that it may be even more likely?
There is a factory recall campaign on this, however. Get the VIN number, and find out if it has been addressed already.
There are .30 owners here (not myself) who can be more helpful.

Also, if you still find the 3.0 to be a bit underpowered, the newer 3.4 is a popular "upgrade". if you dig around there are a number of references to this (If yer up to some work/downtime on it of course).

With 200+ Billion electrical parts, the world most complicated machine is inside your own skull.

Question Reality.

Also check to see if has the full floating axle. Some duel tire models still had semi-floating axles (I think) so you'll need take a look at the rear axle hubs. I believe Toyota did a recall at one point to convert some of the semi-floaters with full floating axles.
