If you have a brass drift, tap them out. They'll come out, BTDT several times. Be sure when reinstalling to put anti-seize on them so you don't have this problem again!

The only problem is that the side where I would have to hti from is a pretty tight spot. I guess I could remove the caliper but that could become difficult and wouldnt have as solid a backing to hit on. I did try tapping it out but wouldnt budge at all, I guess I will have to try for longer. Is it possible that they will take more to get out? It sucks that there isnt much to grab onto, the only way to get them out it seems is to finesse it.

An air chisel with the pointed punch attachment usually works to get it moving.

I tried them again with the wheels turned so I could get at them and they wont budge. I will probably have to bring them into a shop, that will be a tad more expensive though. Hope that I dont need new calipers. Would be cool if I could find an air chisel though.

Had the same problem at work a few days ago...

You're just going to have to knock the living snot out of those pins.

If They break, oh well, you buy new pins. If they're stuck beyond repair, then obviously, you'll need a new caliper.

But wack it REAL HARD...ball-peen hammer works well.

Is it just on one side? or Both?

It is both sides. Do I risk damaging anything if I go to town on these things (assuming I am on target)? When I was trying to tap them out with a punch it made divots in the end of the pins, is this a sign of something bad or just because they were not brass punches?

So what now? I sprayed a lot of blaster on them and might try again in a couple days, maybe wire brush the area and get what I can off. Any suggestions?

sounds like an excellent excuse to upgrade to newer Tundra calipers and rotors! look here:

Just an FYI...

I just took a look at my old 99 Taco calipers...

The 199mm/231mm measurements must be for the length of the caliper body...Thats the only measurement that even came close on my old calipers.

My calipers measured aboot 8 5/8" (219mm).

That means the Tundra calipers SHOULD be:

199mm = 7.83"
231mm = 9.09"

Also, my Taco calipers are stamped S12WN.

Anyway, this makes me wonder what the difference is between the 199mm Tundra calipers and the stock 219mm Tacoma calipers... Are the 199mm REALLY an upgrade over the stock Tacoma calipers?

AND if there isnt really an upgrade between the 199mm and 219mm's, its no wonder Toyota had to upgrade the brakes on the Tundras...

It said in that write-up that you need 16" wheels to do it. Does that indicate that they are larger and beefier? I have 15"s so I havent thought about it but I still cant get those damn pins out so I am waiting till school where my roomate has 24 hour access to the Baja Shop.
