Just adjusted the valves about 1000kms ago and now my engine has a ticking noise comeing from the top end at about cyld. #2. Any ideas? I opened the cover and inspected the valve tain it seamed fine and check the clearences again but nothing was out. I know about 1 out of every 3 22R I hear drive by have a similar noise to them. Thoughts?

In most cases on the older mills, the valve adjustment screws have developed flat spots on the ends, and are no longer nice and convex.

You can rotate the cam around, just as you would for adjusting the valves, and remove the screw completely for inspection, reinstall and adjust; move on to the next.

Part number might be up in the part number sticky.

Instead of the spec .008 and .012 for the valve clearances, he suggests to tighten up to .007 and .011

Folks do it; doesn't always fix it.

No way, I thought that was just me. My brand new engine ticks and I wasn't going to worry about it until 500 miles when I changed the oil after breaking in the rings.

I was at Wally's and a guy started up his 22r Toy and I said, wow, it sounds like you need a tune-up like I do. He said he had just had his engine rebuilt.

Do all the 22r engines tick like this?

Joa
