Getting the Wheeling Fever
Honestly, I finished installing the Howell TBI and she started right up and idled beautifully. Never had to any adjustments and she runs great. The acceleration is unbievable and even runs quieter.

This was done on a 89 YJ with a 4.2, 5 speed. The worst part about it was that I just installed a new rebuilt carb and a new ecm. But, these never fixed the issues the mechanics stated it would.

So, if anyone is interested in making an offer on these to items, I'll be glad to part with them.

Big Jim, that's all part of the installation. They provided a new ecm that by passed the ignition module.

There was no other adjustment necessary. But I will tell you that it's a pain in the ass to put all those wires back in the harness.

Correction: The ECM provided bypassed the computer controlled carburetor. The ignition module is still in the equation.

Well hell! RL you need to check the timing real good ar several rpm to see what is happening. If you do not get all the timing you need then do the nutter and it WILL run better. I might just go ahead and do it anyway to make sure.. No! Scratch that... I WOULD do the nutter anyway! Then I would KNOW I had it running at it's best.

The Nutter bypass is bypassing the ECM for the stepper motor and pulling the ignition module out of the ECM's feedback loop, correct??

With Howell EFI that ECM is removed from the equation altogether. It isn't physically there to bypass any longer, therefore the Nutter bypass isn't applicable. It's in effect already done. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

CSp you are totally WRONG! The nutter bypases the computer to the dist... Makes the dist respond like it should without the stepper motor carb..

BJ, you just paraphrased what CSP said in less technical terms. In essence the howell "nutters" it as part of the modification.

So the kit furnishes components to do job as it needs to ne done? I'll accept that.
No matter how it gets done the dist needed to be turned loose somehow.
