Getting the Wheeling Fever
Just had my a/c vaccumed and recharged. This is the first time the a/c has been messed with since the 3.4 swap, 91 Trooper, 5 speed manual. It was converted from R12 to 134 several years ago and worked fine before the engine swap. The mechanic said he put 40 oz's back in. Is this too much? my compressor kicks off and on during idle or at low speeds of less than 40mph. It cools great at consistant speeds of 50+. The fan cluth is less than 4 months old and seems to be pulling air great when sitting still. Does anyone know the recommended amount of R134? Thanks.

IIRC, the label on mine says factory fill with R12 is 2.something lbs. And, I believe, with R134 you're supposed to put in 85% of the R12 charge. So, I'd say that 40oz is probably too much. What kind of pressures are you getting, low and high?

not sure, no gauges and I wasn't there when he did the charge. But thanks for the reply, very helpful actually. I think I'll let it run at idle and bleed gas some from the lines until it stops engaging/disengaging the compressor. If I let out too much I could always just add some right?
