First of all were looking at the transfer housing of a W56 tranny. I rebuilt this tranny about 2 years ago. Well I heard some rough bearing noise coming from the input shaft. So I decided to take it back apart and rebuild again. The question is, is the bearing race circled supposed to spin in the housing? I beleive the last one would spin as well, I just going through the thing checking things that might need some looking into.
Thanks

I've not been in a W56, and this is a guess only, but I don't think you have an issue unless there is lots of play.

It's a Marlin question... post his answer!

I've never known of a race that was supposed to spin in ANY housing...

My old Buick's L/F hub outer bearing race spins a bit... I can actually move the wheel up and down due to it. Whenever I come home, I will have a j/y hub ready to install in that thing, ASAP.

I can't think of any reason you would ever want a bearing to spin in any housing. I think that you could take it and the beraing into a bearing store counter sales and get something very closeto the opening you have (oversized) then take your housing into a machine shop and have them make it fit, unless there is no way to know the center point. In that case, new housing? THis is just from a perspective of someone that works with machines, not had that particular situation with a tranny before.

Me neither... but they do in many Toy housings. Until assembled, that is.

If you're still seeking an authoritive answer, call Marlin - or email - they're very customer service friendly and sell rebuild kits... Nevermind the fact that they are THE toyota Transmission shop..
