ok, so i bent my rear skyjacker lift springs, so im doing what a shoulda done in the first place.

i need leafs out of a 1/2 ton 2wd chevy correct?

how far forward to move the spring hangers, and how far back for the shackle mount (using single shackles)?

and finally, can i get away with the stock u-bolts for now, or are the chevys too wide?

thanya

Body Damage is Cool
The PBB FAQ is great, but let's go ahead and hit some high points.

You CAN move the front hangers, but it's a heck of a lot easier to get some from BudBuilt. They get mounted 11 inches forward of the stockers.

Stock u-bolts will work, but while you have it apart it's a good time to go ahead and do a u bolt flip. But that means you have to deal with a new lower shock mount. No biggie...

I did not move my shackle hanger. I use a single 9" eye-to-eye shackle in the stock hanger.

It's a great mod. Love mine.

i already got some hangers, shackles and mounts from a buddy of mine. id do a u-bold flip and reposition the shocks, but im on a super super low buget right now, so if the stockies work for now, yeah.

thanks guys

Wheeler
i just finished a swap similar to that but just a tad bit different. i took the leaf packs apart from a chevy 2wd and my rear yota leafs(well what was left of them lol..) and if you have access to something that cna drill spring steel just center mark and re-drill the canter hole to match the chevy leafs to the toyota leafs. it gave me about 2-3 inches of lift and stiffened up the rear just a tad but so far has offerd remarkably good flex, now mine is purly wheeler at the moment so i dont have shocks on her right now as i dont plan on a dune trip very soon.

but like i said if you dont have anything that will drill spring steel, like a ball end on a milling machine(which i know os not a very common thing to have accces to) like i had than good luck. normal drill bits will not work they dull and polish the spring steel to an ever harder level, trust me i only destroyed 11 bits ya know.

but any way that saved me the hastle of trying to relocate the spring hanger, but either way is going to have its hard points.

PS if done right you can use the chevy center pin but if you can find a longer one , just 1/2" would be proficient for a longer center pin.

I have about the same questions. I should get my swap kit for chevies in today from Sky. Yes YES YeS, i have already studied the Pirate 4x4 page too. I have some more specific questions as well?

Normal swap for chevies: 11" forward, shackle is 4" back
As per SKY on an 83 model: 12" forward, shakle about 1.5"

Can anyone give me specifics on shackle angle on an 83 if I do the standard 11" forward ?

I must know I am picking up my chevies Saturday... woo hoo flex flex flex
