There is a copy of the Factory Service Manual at the top of this BB. It is for a 93, but it is the same. Make sure to get your flywheel resurfaced.

Get a transmission jack, makes life alot easier. If you dont have a body lift on your truck, you will want to unbolt the crossmember first, lower the transmission, then get the top bell housing bolt off FIRST!
As previously mentioned, see the FSM for the general step-by-step procedure. It's a pretty straight forward job.

Trans jack and a buddy are mandatory.I used cheap floor jack adapter and ratchet straps.Bought trans jack after that. You will need a bushing kit for the shifter[yours is cracked by now, marlin crawler makes heavier duty pieces}.Advance has new flywheels cheaper than you can turn them.Next one I do I will use factory spec clutch,as my heavy duty LCE clucth chatters alittle bit[might go away after wear in.Make some long studs to guide trans up on bellhousing.Do not use bolts to pull trans in or mainshaft will push out your pilot bearing.Be safe, its an easy job.

I would do the rear main seal while its out. I think every toyota I've had has leaked oil there at one time or another. And look into the shim kit to go with it. I don't know alot about it but I was told about it AFTER I did my new seal and it all ready leaks less than 2,000 later.

what is the 'shim kit' ? I'm putting a used 22re in soon and was thinking that the rear main may be something that maybe I should do...although it only has 45K or so on it.

"shim kit" a.k.a "speedy sleeve".

It's a cap that goes on the end of the crank(front/rear). You use one if a groove has worn in the crank from the old seal rubbing.
