Getting the Wheeling Fever
I have an 84 Toyota pickup and was wondering how difficult it would be to switch it to the EFI setup. I believe i'll need another computer or a different one but from what i've looked at it, it doesn't look too terribly difficult(I know looks are decieving, heh). I figure that this may help the problem's of having to stop/start on a steep hill and may keep me from getting a diff carb. Thanks

I think this may explain what i'm looking for will have to look more, but if anyone has any other advice I would appercaite it smile

Hmm, sounds to be easier to just find a complete EFI engine..lol.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I'm right in the middle of that process now. I have an 84 4Runner that I'm swapping in all the EFI stuff from an 85 4Runner. So far I've swapped, fuel tanks, fuel lines, complete engine and dash wiring harnesses, and am using a rebuilt block and all the EFI components.

It's alot of work and I'm still not done <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/zombie.gif" alt="" />

I'm also in the middle of a swap. I'm putting 87 4runner parts into my 84 xcab.I'd advise getting a complete donor truck. There are differences on some 22R's that are supposed to make it difficult to bolt up 22RE manifolds. I'm installing a rebuilt 22RE block & the EFI parts off the 87, so I'm not up on the differences.

Take lots pictures of the disassembly...saves a lot of second guessing as it goes back together (take lots more than you think you'll need, invariably the one part you want to check out is hidden by an otherwise perfect camera angle).

I haven't tackled the wireing yet, looks like it'll be a head scratcher, pretty much just like that article says.

It can be done, but it's no weekend project.

Yeah, that will be the last step of this interesting project, & I shouldn't have to do that until 6-08. I understand it'll require a trip to a referee to verify that I put in *all* the 87 smog equipment properly.

?? If you mean SF, not really, I'm up in the mountains about halfway between Sacto & Reno.

The truck I got was orginally from Cali with the smog, but I'm not required to run it in Oregon so I was just going to yank that off. The more I read about it think's I may wait till after I get everything else done before I go attempting it. Not that I do not want to do it, just would like to beable to wheel it this winter not having it in pieces =)

So instead of efi'ing it I think i'll put the money into lockers/regearing it. Should I regear, then lockers or do it both at the same time?
