i am having trouble with my 98 tacoma leaning to the driver's side. i have wrecked this vehicle before on the right front end and i do not know if the frame was not straightened properly or the body mount was welded back to the frame to high. if this was a body mount problem what could i do to fix it? i really don't want to spend the money to have the frame checked out if possible.i have updated the shocks and springs to TRD so i don't think that is the problem. are there any kits that can raise the body(washers or shims etc.)?
please help me out as it is bothering me to look at it. thanks

I believe the driver's side lean on Toyota pickups is pretty common. My T-100 leans a little to the driver's side...maybe an inch or so with a full tank. I have also noticed on the road that others are the same (T-100s, Tacomas).

I dont really get this myself. Which springs and shocks did you just upgrade? All around or just upfront, could be a broken leaf or something unless it just leans in the front.

Actually in re-reading your post...is the truck leaning or is it crooked (since you had frame work done)? I believe the lean is due (in my case) to the gas tank, battery, plus my fat a$$ being on the driver's side and taxing the springs over time. It sat nice and level the first few years I had it.

i agree with those statements about the gas tank, battery, and the f@# a#$--as i am a big boy myself--but the truck leans to the left even when the gas is low and i am out of the truck! i have not come up with a way of measuring the front end height properly to tell if it is a frame problem. the shocks and springs are the trd ones and relatively new--it had this problem before i switched them as well?

i notice the same thing, mainly while i'm in the cab and looking at the box in the rear-view(left-side seems lower). initially i attributed it to my viewing angle with the mirror. looking at the truck from behind, the truck(or at least the box) appears to be leaning slightly left. however, when i measure it(ground to top-of-box) the numbers are even within reason.

one thing i have noticed recently is that my left rear shock is leaking and needs replacement but that wasn't the case before. is it possible that the lean has anything to do with the shock on the left side being mounted behind the rear axle versus in front on the right side?

anyone have recommendations for replacing the shocks? OEM? TRD? aftermarket?

I've got the same problem with my 99...But I'm thinking my frame is bent...

Take a look at this guy's experience...probably worst case, but there seems to be a known issue with this:
http://www.offroadingadventures.com/

I have so much rust flaking off my frame, its hard to tell whether mine is buckled in that spot or not...I have to get under and try to measure it or something.

I also was hoping it was just the shock on that side, but when I replaced it with a new one, it didnt do anything for it.

Granted, I have had a semi-bad front end hit when I fell asleep at the wheel in a blizzard, and hit a huge pile plowed snow at the end of someone's driveway...And then there was the time I backed into a thin pine tree a little hard, on the left rear corner....AND the time I backed right into the front of my buddie's S10....AND then the time I backed up and JUST clipped the very corner of the left side of the bed while backing up next to an opent top dumpster..(Caught one of the hinge tabs on the corner of the dumpster and sliced open the bedside...)

And then the time I had a 650lb Cub Cadet in the bed for a day or two....And then the time I picked up a 7MGTE, tranny and all the goodies to go with it from Foxfab in Conn. (I'm 8hrs away in NY)...I left the motor in the bed for 4 days...I found out when I got back, the left AAL broke clean in half somewhere along this trip, too...

Anyway, I'm guessing it was one (or more) of these things, but probably hauling the motor and leaving it in the bed is what did it...Ever since the AAL broke, its been leaning...Even replacing the AAL hasnt helped...

Check out Demello Offroad...they have frame reinforcements...$89 for both sides.

Looks like you scab them on the outside of the frame...I wish they were for boxing the inside of the frame, but I guess they work...I know they've sold quite a few of them...

I have a 01 V6 manual tacoma.. I was wondering if it would be worth while to put a cold air intake and a throttle body spacer on it? Also if there would be any negative consequences for doing so? Alsowhich would be the best kind to put on it?

the TRD springs and shocks are junk. I would go with aftermarket springs and shocks like old man Emu.
