Getting the Wheeling Fever
I went outside tonight and started up my truck beacuse I had a suspicion that one of my wires was grounding out beacuse the engine would idle rough and lack power at low speeds and miss. Sure enough I have a little light show coming from cylinders 1 and 6. The engine was rebuilt about 400 miles ago and the wires are brand new. I have spark plug heat sheild sleeves around all the spark plug boots beacuse I have downey headders. Would this cause the wires to ground out?

I bet those new wires came from Checkers or AutoBone.....you can get wholesale pricing on Genuine Toyota quality from here..... http://firsttoyotaparts.com

Are those heat shield sleeves of a metallic nature?....or are they of the white woven silk sock variety?

no way, I stay away from cheap stuff on my trucks. I got mine from napa, they were the premimum wires and cost over 40 bucks which is why I'm P.O.'d I hate wasting money.

Theses are the heat sheilds I have>

as far as I can tell it is at the end of the boot.

I have to replace those "lifetime" wires every year. The expensive, top of the line Bosch seem to be the worst that I ever used. Someday I'll wise up and buy OEM. Believe what they say here: These trucks don't like aftermarket wires.

You might want to pull those plugs and look for carbon tracks on either the plug insulator or on the boots. Try cleaning both really well and see if that helps. Maybe there was some grease or other contaminant on either that led to the arcing.
