Hi everyone
My Trooper didn't want to fire up this morning, so I pulled one of the glow plugs out and tested it. Its toasted. The end is corroded and it doesn't get warm when I apply 12 votls to it. I hope they are 12 volts
Anyway they look original and I need to replace them. They are NGK and it looks like the model #8594. I searched the archives and found all sorts of other interesting goodies which were so enthralling I forgot what I was looking for.
I went to the NGK site, no luck, Tropper II C223T engine not listed. I went to glowplugs.com, this site blows. Then I went to NAPA.com Napa glow plug
This is showing the same glow plug for the turbo as the NA engine. This can't be right.
So, I am back and asking if anyone knows what the proper glow plug for my 1986 Trooper II C223T engine is and if anyone knows where I can order a set of 4 for less than the $27 each NAPA wants for them?
Thanks

Brian--

In fact, the turbo and n/a engines do use the same glow plug as does the smaller I-mark engine. $27 does seem high. I think there are some auctions on ebay now for Beck Arnley glow plugs which are OK.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Hello Brian. The glow plugs for the c223 are 6 volt rated plugs......be very careful applying 12 volts directly to them for more than about 2-3 seconds............I have not been happy with the Beck 176 1043 glow plugs when using any fuels with a higher Btu value than diesel fuel.......they burn out.......

Jerry has glow plugs at a much better price than $27 each...........

I just found a problem on both of my diesel troopers with the wiring harness for the glow plug resistor bar circuit..........at least on these two engines, the way that the harness for the small green and red wires that attach to the resistor bar is routed back to the fire wall caused a "rubbing" point that "shorted out" the two wires and I believe that is what "blew" all four of my glow plugs at one time on one of them.............

After re taping the wires, I ran the harness differently to stop the problem............

This is some thing that I will be checking on all of my trucks, pick ups as well................

regards,
crossbones

Kewel Thanks.
I went in to AutoZone and they have the cheapo ones for $11.75 so I ordered four, being the impatient type. It looks like two, maybe three are easy to reach, but the one behind the air conditioning compressor looks like a bear to reach. If I could figure a way to route the power steering pump belt I would pull the compressor for good. I guess it came off pretty easy with the air ratchet. Oh well I get to sit on it until next week as I have a busy week coming up. Plus, this weekend I am going to rescue another Trooper from the other side of the mountain. That should be fun. Maybe the new one is a female and little Trooper pups are in the future for us. Haha
