Getting the Wheeling Fever
I am trying to locate coolant temp. sensor on my 3.4L. I have a Haynes book and there is a sketch showing the sensor being above the oil cap on the right hand side valve cover. I just don't see it.
The reason that I am looking for it is that my gage in the dash is acting weird. In the cool mornings it works ok. When I leave from work in the afternoon the gage jumps up to the mid point right away. This happens as soon as I turn the key (I have not started the truck yet).

Not sure about your haynes. Mine is located in the middle of the "V" jsut behind the timing belt cover. Manual says to remove the upper hose to remove the cover, I was able to move the cover out of the way enough to remove the temp sensor.

My gauge has been acting up to, pretty sure mine is the actual dashboard gauge and not the sensor, as it will show cold even though the engine has warmed up and dropped the idle down to normal.

Found it!!!! Thanks for pointing me in the right direction
Dave. Did you replace yours already? If you did, did you get it from the stealership or just an auto parts store?

I went with an autoparts store. Cheapest one they had. Actually, it didn't fix my problem (the gauge boucing around) so I took it back out, cleaned it up and returned it. Think it was about $30?? With 250k miles, didn't want to go the route of OEM and the associated price.
