2.6L into my 87 trooper #747711 08/27/06 05:21 PM

Anybody have info on swapping a 2.6L with fuel injection (from a 89?) into my 87 Trooper II? Any tips will be much appreciated! It has a 5 speed trans and a worn out engine (bad head & trashed carb). I don't want to spend any more $ on this engine. I have a 4.3L from a Chevy S15 but don't want to deal with that swap. I think the 2.6L will be much cleaner and dependable.

It'll work and probably be the simplest of swaps (other than the exact replacement). Basically all you'd need is the 4ZE1 engine, fuel injection, wiring harness, fuel lines, and fuel tank from the donor vehicle.

and by "fuel injection" I'm sure Richard is including the ECM in that package! I think the hardest part will be replacing the wiring harness.

If the change over to fuel injection is a problem, the 87 intake and exhaust manifolds from the 4ZD1 will bolt up to the 4ZE1.
